“ | No drinking drinks in the halls! | ” |
— Principal of the Thing, when he sees the player using the BSODA.
|
BSODA is an inventory item in the Baldi's Basics series.
Description
BSODA is a navy blue soda can with a gray top and bottom. There is white text showing the slogan: "Restart_Refresh_BSODA". However, the slogan on the small icon is just "BSODA" written diagonally.
Usage
BSODA can push almost all characters in the Schoolhouse or Super Schoolhouse, making it useful to temporarily stall Baldi and most other characters. When used, it spits out a blue spray that is the same color as the can. If the player presses the "Look back" key or button (Space bar by default) to look backwards before using BSODA, they can spray behind them. BSODA can also be used to open standard doors or swinging doors, but there should be a character being pushed by it. While NPCs are pushed by the BSODA spray, they are unable to move. This includes Baldi, despite the fact he continues to slap with his ruler.
The BSODA spray can go through walls, which means it will last until the character being pushed by it runs into a wall or until 30 seconds, the BSODA's lifespan, pass. If It's a Bully is in the BSODA's path, any character can be stopped by him and BSODA spray will bounce off from him.
Pros & Cons
Advantages
- The BSODA can be used on characters if absolutely necessary, such as:
- Baldi, when he is about to fully catch the player. Pushing him to a very long hallway saves more time.
- 1st Prize, when he is about to push the player while Baldi is right behind them.
- Playtime, when playing a jump rope minigame, pushing her will interrupt the minigame when she is far away from the player.
Neutral
- If Principal of the Thing sees the player using BSODA, he will scold them for breaking one of the school rules and try to send them to detention. However, if the Principal shows up few seconds after the BSODA is used, despite the soda spray displaying in front of him, he will not put the player to detention. The Principal will not scold the player for using BSODA also if:
- Wearing the Faculty Nametag.
- In the playground or his office.
Disadvantages
- Chalkles and It's a Bully cannot be pushed by BSODA.
Locations
Main gameplay
BSODA can be found in various ways:
- Randomly located in faculty rooms.
- Using a Quarter to the BSODA machine.
- Completing a field trip.
- Located at the center of the Principal's office during the party event.
- Purchasing it for 150 You Thought Points at Johnny's Store.
Endless Mode - Medium
BSODA can be found in a faculty room with a Quarter, close to the room's door.
Challenges
- In the Speedy Challenge, there is only one BSODA machine, so that its only possible to get 1 BSODA from it. The other two BSODAs can be found in two faculty rooms each.
- In the Grapple Challenge, two BSODAs are found in each faculty room and one can be purchased from a BSODA machine using a Quarter.
- In the Stealthy Challenge, there are no BSODAs nor BSODA machines.
Other appearances
- In Baldi's Basics Classic, a free BSODA can be found from one of the tables inside the cafeteria. However, the BSODA spray seems to be small and slightly slower.
- In Baldi's Basics Birthday Bash, BSODA can be found, either in presents or being purchased from the Crazy Item machine. Its spray has the same properties as in Classic.
- In Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered, the mechanism is same as in Baldi's Basics Plus. The locations are also the same as in Classic in the Classic Style. It can randomly be found in faculty rooms in Demo Style. Also, if playing this game on Steam, the player will earn the "BSODA Pro" achievement when four or more characters are pushed by the spray.
- In Baldi's Basics - Field Trip demo: Camping, a BSODA is obtained when the player successfully completes the demo with 25,000 or more points, along with Baldi's Least Favorite Tape and the Energy Flavored Zesty Bar. However, the player does not have the permission to use these items as the demo skips to the Kickstarter promotion ending screen.
- In Baldi's Basics Full Game Early Demo, there are no free BSODAs, however they can still be obtained from a BSODA machine and randomly from the party event.
- In Baldi's Basics Kickstarter Exclusive Demo, BSODA is found in the same way as in Baldi's Basics Plus before V0.2. Since Baldi's Basics Plus V0.2, the BSODA can also be found and bought in Johnny's Store.
Trivia
General
- BSODA is a reference to the Blue Screen of Death, a screen displayed when a critical error occurs on a Windows OS.
- The BSODA machine's slogan further reflects this.
- BSODA is a play on the acronym for the Blue Screen of Death: BSoD, combined with the word soda, making BSODA.
- While the game itself has a ton of inspirations from Sonic's Schoolhouse, the idea of the BSODA's existence, based on the Blue Screen of Death, is taken from the Sonic's Schoolhouse's rare error that sometimes causes its operating system to cause a Blue Screen of Death when attempting to exit the game.
- The player sprays the BSODA instead of drinking it, despite Principal of the Thing's quote "No drinking drinks in the halls!". When analyzed carefully, his claim does not make any sense, at all. The player does not drink it.
- According to mystman12, BSODA tastes of blue, fizz, and aluminum.[1]
Baldi's Basics Plus
- BSODA is one of the three items to have a unique alternate sprite for inventory slots instead of simply a resized sprite, the other two being the Alarm Clock and the Portal Poster.
- BSODA's function is similar to Gotta Sweep and 1st Prize. BSODA is an item, while Gotta Sweep and 1st Prize are characters.
- The sprite of BSODA's spray seems way bigger than one in Classic/Birthday Bash and also seems to move faster.
- Prior to V0.1.3, the BSODA guilt time was 3 seconds instead of 0.8 seconds.
- Prior to V0.4, there were some differences:
- The BSODA spray was the same sprite used from Baldi's Basics Classic.
- When sprayed, it did not spawn with rotation in random angle.
- The player could not be pushed by BSODA.
- BSODA spray just passed through It's a Bully.
Baldi's Basics Classic/Birthday Bash
- In the class name of the BSODA's spray (
BsodaSparyScript
), "Spray" is misspelled as "Spary". - BSODA can open swinging doors even if there is no character being pushed.
Baldi's Basics Classic
- In V1.0, spraying a BSODA would make the player guilty of it for 3 seconds. It was changed to 1 second in V1.1.
- Prior to V1.3, the sound of spraying BSODA was not implemented.
Glitches
Baldi's Basics Plus
- If the player uses BSODA when NPCs are too close to them, they can interact with the player.
- Rarely, BSODA spray passes through NPCs, instead of pushing them.
- Prior to V0.3.8, BSODA's spray would partially clip through the ground after the player gets detention.
- Prior to V0.4.1, when using a BSODA on a character while they were moved by something else like Cloudy Copter's wind or the conveyor belt, they could sometimes clip through the BSODA spray.
Baldi's Basics Classic
- Prior to V1.2.2, the BSODA was frame-based and did not do anything to the characters on higher-end computers, because of the FPS being too high. Limiting the FPS fixes this issue in these versions.
Demos
- In Full Game Early Demo and Kickstarter Exclusive Demo, if the player uses a BSODA on Baldi while he is eating An Apple for Baldi, Baldi will hover around the player until he stops eating, which immediately leads to either losing a life or leading to a game over if the player does not beat the floor in time or does not have another Apple.
